THE POWER OF AGREEMENT
By Pastor Anthony
Agreement is the switch for any light to come on in a home or relationship. And when it is on darkness disappears.
Analogy of Agreement compares to the black and red cable that requires connection to generate power. Without the two coming together they are powerless, the moment they connect they can burn or electrocute anything.
If you need power in your marriage in your home then agreement is what you need. If you want to fend off against the attack of the enemies enter into agreement with your spouse, If you want a shield around you and your family that other cannot comprehend what is happening , always ensure that you reach agreement with your spouse on almost all issues.
John 10 vs 10- the devil has come to steal, kill and destroy. Show the example by calling out 2 couples one in agreement and the other not —————. How easy for devil to access a home with no agreement.
What is agreement / Explanation/ Definition
The power of agreement is one of the most important themes we find in the bible. This is particularly true when it comes to marriage. Words like “agreement”, “unity”, “oneness”, “being one” and “covenant”, are meant to convey powerful word pictures to encourage us to choose this blessed way of alignment for ourselves. Jesus himself through the entirety of John 17 fervently prays that oneness would be a reality in the lives of all that would follow after him.
Various definitions: it is a negotiated and typically legally binding arrangement between parties as to a course of action. It is the absence of incompatibility between two things
Most occasion the indigenous people uses Partner to describe their spouse rather than husband and wife. This makes me look at the meaning of partner – It states . One that is united or associated with another or others in an activity or a sphere of common interest.
It is amazing that Jesus uses the word agreement to describe our relationships. Use references & scriptural examples
][ The Greek word is sumphoneo. Sum is the word together, and phoneo is voice or say. We get our word symphony from this word. It means to let the same word of faith go forth from all of us in harmony. Every instrument in an orchestra is different, but when all the instruments are led by a capable conductor, the music is miraculous. This is the kind of harmony that is sweet to the ears of God. This kind of relationship makes miracles possible. God loves this kind of unity
The foundation of every marriage is agreement, Amos 3 vs 3: Can 2 walk together except they agree. Meaning there is a level of agreement even when man and woman are still courting
Marriage is one of the greatest partnerships on the planet! A husband and wife that walk in agreement can achieve great things. Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NLT) says, “Two people are better off
than one, for they can help each other succeed.” Being in agreement doesn’t mean you’ll always see things the same way. It means you have a common goal and purpose, and together, you help each other succeed.
Agreement is a powerful tool in building a marriage.
It is essential for you and your spouse to be fully aware that you are partners in your marriage-building process. As partners, one of the most powerful tools you have is the power of agreement.
When you and your spouse get in agreement, you will start to see amazing things happen. Matthew 18:19-20 (NKJV) says, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them
The goal for you and your spouse is agreement in thinking. Philippians 2:2 (NIV) talks about “being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”
The farther apart a couple is in their thinking, the farther apart they will grow in their marriage relationship. However, that doesn’t mean you will always see things eye-to-eye. It means that when it comes to planning and building your life together, you are of one mind, headed in the same direction with the same goals. There is nothing more satisfying than accomplishing goals together!
Love agreements are real. You make them, and you carry them out. Once you have made these love agreements in your heart, the day-to-day behavior will begin to follow. As you make love agreements with your husband or wife, you will see different behaviors and attitudes show up in your marriage. Aiming at higher standards of behavior opens us up to improvement.
God has given each one of us the power to make and carry out our agreements. We choose whether we are going to invest this power in a positive agreement or a destructive one. The events of September 11, 2001, began when one heart determined to make an agreement to hate and kill others. Yet, it was also the power that Mother Theresa invested in a positive agreement that enabled her to love the millions of unlovable people whose lives she touched for good in India. God created both individuals, and each had one heart. Both made agreements in their hearts, and both successfully carried out those agreements. You too have a heart—a great big heart capable of incredible constructive or destructive agreements.
There are varieties of agreements be it financial, business, career, holiday, parenting etc
The agreements that you and your spouse make regarding your relationship, which I call love agreements, are critical which I will concentrate on for this retreat.
The love agreements you make or don’t make in your life can be the difference between having a great loving marriage or a distant, cold marriage
Your love agreements will show up in your day-to-day behavior. Day in and day out, you will live out the agreements you make.
These seven love agreements will expose you to greater intimacy with God and with your spouse. Love agreements don’t guarantee instant results, but they launch us on a process of bettering the marriage relationship. The process works best when wife and husband choose the behaviors together. But one partner can make the agreements solo as a way of drawing closer to his or her spouse. The love agreements are not once-and-for-all promises. As humans, sometimes we fail to be patient or kind. It’s better to review and renew the agreements frequently. One day at a time builds true love and intimacy.
The Seven Love Agreements
Faithfulness: I will be faithful to my spouse at all times in all circumstances.
Patience: I will not try to change things about my spouse that I do not like but will modify any of my behaviors that annoy my partner.
Forgiveness: When I have offended my spouse, I will quickly ask for forgiveness, and I will forgive my spouse’s offenses in my heart even before being asked.
Support / service: I will anticipate my spouse’s spiritual, emotional, physical and material needs and will do everything I can to meet them.
Respect: I will not act or speak in a way that ridicules or embarrasses my spouse.
Kindness: I will be kind to my spouse, eliminating any trace of meanness from my behavior and speech.
Appreciation / Celebration: I will appreciate my spouse’s gifts and attributes and celebrate them personally and publicly.
When you fully understand these seven love agreements, you can direct or correct the course of your marriage. When you understand the love agreements, you realize you can make heartfelt choices that orient your will to act more Christianly toward your spouse.
Everyone has heard the saying, “if you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it.” I’ve heard several motivational speakers and pastors express the need for focus or aiming for goals.
Take time with your spouse and write down some goals for your marriage and family that you can get in agreement on. Pray and confess the Word over them. As you walk together in agreement, there is nothing you can’t accomplish together!
Envying, strife and divisions had reduced believers to the natural, or carnal, state that they were in before they were born again. It had so stunted their spiritual growth that they couldn’t understand the things or appreciate the benefits of unity / agreement
Satan has sent the same spirit of division among us today. He knows that a house divided against itself will fall. Matthew 12:25, KJV: 25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto him, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand
He also knows if we all come together in the unity of our faith, we’ll arrive at the full stature of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:13). So, he has assigned a spirit of division to operate in our personal lives, our church lives, our social lives and our family lives.
When God says one will chase a thousand and 2 to chase 10000, it takes agreement for that to manifest or come to pass.
The Bible says that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8)
ISSUE OF PRE-NUPTIAL AGREEMENT.
What satan did- Divide and Conquer
Satan has always deceived believers and nonbelievers into a self-centered narcissism that has brought destruction and waste. When you follow the enemy’s tracks, his goal is always to divide and conquer.
In Eden, Satan brought death, dealing division to Adam and Eve and plunging the human race into the fall. At Babel, Satan sought to use the miracle principle of unity to lead another rebellion against God. The ancient ruler Nimrod sought to usurp God’s throne, as had Satan, by building a tower. Consequently, division came and the nations began to war against each other.
The division of Jacob’s sons and the selling of Joseph into slavery led to famine and shortage for Israel. This would only be remedied by the restoration of these brothers.
The captivities of both Israel and Judah took place after their division into two separate kingdoms under Jeroboam and Rehoboam. Israel could mark its decline from that breach in family relationship.
When Jesus arrived on the scene, the faith of Abraham was divided into Pharisees and Sadducees. They had wrecked the faith, and now the nation lived in slavery under Herod and Rom
The Benefits of agreement as stated in scriptures
Ecclesiastes 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
A bundle of sticks cannot be broken. If the strands in the broom do not agree you cannot sweep with it.
An ant does not have strength to kill except when they are in numbers.
Ecclesiastes 4:10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Success/ Hood dividend
Ecclesiastes 4:9 two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
Ecclesiastes 4:12a … And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him
When at least two people agree, it means we are joining or faith together.
Overcomes our limitations
Scriptures supporting agreement / unity
1 Corinthians 1 vs 10: I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought
